Eczema
Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a chronic skin condition that causes intense itching, redness, dryness, and inflammation of the skin. It commonly appears on the hands, face, elbows, knees, and neck, but can affect any part of the body. The skin barrier becomes weak, allowing moisture to escape and irritants or germs to enter, which worsens irritation and itching. Eczema is often linked to allergies, asthma, genetic factors, and an overactive immune response. Scratching can make the skin thick, cracked, and sometimes infected. Although there is no permanent cure, eczema can be well managed with regular moisturizing, avoiding triggers like harsh soaps or allergens, using medicated creams, and maintaining good skin care habits to keep flare-ups under control.
